The recently confirmed Call of Duty game, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC this November, but the game will also launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X sometime after the consoles' release. As such, some fans have wondered how much the capabilities of Sony's and Microsoft's next-generation consoles will affect Cold War's performance.

An Activision employee recently confirmed that Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War would take advantage of one of the most prominent PS5 controller features. This means that the gunplay for 2020's Call of Duty will feel different on PlayStation 5 compared to any of the game's other ports.

The confirmation happened over on ResetEra. One fan managed to get a hold of an Activision Art Lead in a thread pertaining to newly released information on Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. The fan asked the lead if the PlayStation 5 version of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War would take advantage of the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers, and the lead confirmed that it would.

Sony has described the PS5 controller's features in length at this point. The adaptive triggers supposedly allow players to feel the tension of the game as they play. It makes the player feel resistance when pushing down on the shoulder button, and as a result, it simulates pulling an actual trigger. The feature is pretty much tailor-made for long-ranged weapons in video games.

If Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is taking advantage of adaptive triggers, it will likely also take advantage of the DualSense controller's haptic feedback. This feature essentially causes the controller to pulse and vibrate in unique ways depending on what kind of situation the player finds themselves in-game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War developer Treyarch said in a recent blog post that it would announce more information concerning the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game closer to launch. There aren't many details available right now about these versions of the game, but we do know that Call of Duty Cold War cross-platform and cross-progression does exist for them.

A PlayStation Blog post catalogs statements from several PlayStation 5 developers discussing how they'll use the DualSense controller's features with their games. It gives a pretty good idea of what to expect out of the PlayStation 5's Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War until Treyarch can release more information on the subject.
